Meet your guide

After graduating from film school in New York, I moved to Los Angeles, where I spent nearly a decade working on both sides of the desk — as a professional screenwriter and a creative executive developing other writers' work. I've written 21 feature-length screenplays myself, so I know what works and what doesn't.

In 2002, I moved to Denmark and became Head of Screenwriting at the European Film College where I worked with hundreds of young filmmakers from around the world. Along the way, I created Screenwriting in Paradise, leading international workshops — often alongside my friend Jan Harlan, executive producer of Stanley Kubrick's later films.

Through all of it, I've developed a simple way of teaching: Screenwriting by Example. Great movies already contain the lessons, if you watch closely. By carefully examining classic movie sequences, we discover for ourselves how the storytelling actually works. Learning by doing. Learning by example.
